How To Reduce Your Weight Fast

Let's be honest about this - it's a very familiar story. Every year you say that you're going to start going to the gym on a daily basis and skipping random calorie-filled cocktails on a Wednesday night with the girls but before you know it, you haven't been to the gym in five years and you might have skipped on the cocktails, but the calorific chocolate cake still makes its way into girls night... And there are even more calories in that!

The problem with most diets those days is that they only really work in the short-term. If you want to learn how to reduce your weight fast, these crash diets probably will help you - diets like the cabbage soup diet or the juicing detox diet, but as soon as you return to 'regular' eating patterns again, you'll put all that weight you lost back on, and probably bit more too. Is that what you really want?

In order to reduce your weight fast and keep it off, you need to learn to make small but significant changes to your diet and lifestyle. Let's say you have one month to slim down for that big event and the very tight dress you're intending to wear to it. You need to bust that belly, slim down those arms, and tone that butt in order to pull off the look you're going for. A month is plenty of time.

Skip fast food.

Don't eat it. Don't think about eating it. Instead of order a pizza from your local takeout place; a pizza that can contain more than 200 calories per slice, go to your local supermarket and go for one of those create-your-own ones. Normally there is a deli counter of sorts in there that will allow you to choose which toppings and how much, and by doing this, you can massively reduce the calorie content, as well as going for toppings and sauces that won't bloat you out.

Alternatively, swap the pizza for something healthier altogether such as grilled chicken breasts, a side salad with low-calorie dressing, and some baby new potatoes with low-calorie margarine drizzled over them. Doesn't that sound delicious? Fewer than half the calories too...

Skip the sweet aisle in the supermarket.

If you head down the aisle with all the crisps, biscuits and sweets, you're going to pick them up and put them in your cart. Avoid the aisle altogether and you won't have that problem. Plus these processed, sweet (or savoury) treats are packed with calories and are much better substituted with nuts, seeds or dried fruit. These give you the sweet and savoury you need all in one, and are a great source of protein as well as many other nutrients. Not just that but they are low in calories too. When you consider that it takes a deficit of 3,500 calories to lose just one pound of fat, every little helps!

Skip the fizzy drinks.

These are the worst for bloating you out and you'll be surprised at how much of an effect cutting out on fizzy drinks can have on your gut! Within a week of giving up fizzy soda, you could get a much flatter stomach. Skip the fizzy drinks for flavoured water, squash or even just water on its own and you'll have a much better time of things.

Speaking of water, if you drink a glass of ice-cold water right before you eat, you are less likely to overeat as you will feel fuller much sooner, and the body actually burns calories having to warm up ice-cold water to digest it so you'll be killing two birds with one stone.

Start to exercise.

Don't bother paying for the gym, you won't end up going anyway. Just exercise when you can. If you can fit in five minutes of stomach crunches on the living room floor while you're waiting for the kettle to boil, why aren't you? You could be doing star jumps. You could be doing mountain climbers.

The average 140-150 pound person will burn off over 50 calories by doing five minutes of star jumps. If you do that three or four times per day (don't do the same exercise - switch it up), or just when you can, imagine how many calories you'll be burning off. People that say they don't have time for exercise are just making excuses. Even something as simple as taking the stairs instead of the elevator is exercise. Even housework is exercise!

Eat breakfast - 300 calories or less.

Skipping out on breakfast is the worst thing you can do when you want to lose a few pounds. By eating breakfast, you are setting yourself up for the day - giving your metabolism a kick-start in the right direction if you choose the right stuff, plus you'll be less likely to snack on bad foods because your sugar levels won't' drop, and neither will your energy levels when your body realises you haven't fuelled it for the day. Plus, starving yourself actually confuses the body into holding onto your fat reserves for longer rather than working its way through them, because it doesn't know when it will get its next meal.

Clean out the cupboards.

If you have nothing but a bunch of junk in your cupboards, that's all you are going to eat and if you've been making the small changes that we've suggested along the way, it would be a shame to waste all that hard work for half a packet of chocolate biscuits you found in the back of the kitchen cupboard.

Clean out - get rid of the stuff you shouldn't be eating, or haven't touched for a few months. It makes more space for the new, healthier foods you're going to be buying!

Learning how to lose weight fast is simply a matter of making small changes to your diet and lifestyle. There is no magic pill to make you skinny overnight, and you didn't put the weight on overnight so you can't expect to lose it that fast. However, by combining a few smart tips and tricks together, you'll soon start to find your pants get a lot looser!
